Ranging in colour from pale yellow to dark, rich purple, plums come in many different varieties, although only a few are available in shops. they can be sweet and juicy or slightly tart – the latter are best cooked.
Sweet plums are best eaten raw. Plums should be just firm and not too soft, with shiny smooth skin.
Store ripe plums in the fridge.
